A Haven for Developing Writers

˜You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you. Ray Bradbury

Are you ready to polish your manuscript for publication?

Are you asking:

    * How do I know when my manuscript is ready to send to publishers?

¢ Should I find an editor to help me with the process or do the polishing myself?

¢ What does redrafting involve anyway?

¢ Where do I find editorial help?

Dont lose heart …

Get ready to submit!

Publishing houses are more reluctant than ever to spend in-house time and money developing a manuscript, so we have designed a 6-day program to help you take your work from simply ˜written to submission-ready, giving you the best chance of success. Our Editing in Paradise program is tailored to developing writers who have completed a fiction or creative non-fiction manuscript (ideally, finished to at least first draft stage; maximum of 120,000 words).

 Editing in Paradise offers:

    * a program tailored for your manuscript (bespoke exercises)

      ¢ one-on-one editorial consultation sessions*

¢ self-editing techniques ” learn to identify the worst and turn it into the best

¢ a small community of other writers (maximum of 12 participants)

¢ market awareness ” learn how to recognise what youve got and when to pitch

Well look at the techniques great writers use and find those that work for you. By examining various elements ” writing style and word choice, voice, viewpoint, character, dialogue, structure, beginnings, middles and ends, flow and balance, paragraphing, and so on ” youll discover how to realise your manuscripts potential and achieve the ˜wow factor that makes publishers want to keep reading.

Scheduled ˜free time means you can digest new ideas, write, socialise with a new circle of writers, explore the beauty of your exotic surroundings, take a treatment at the spa or simply enjoy some downtime.

*Please note: there will be two extended individual sessions per person. Both Shelley and Selena will have read 50,000 words of your submission before the retreat begins. Our small group size also means you will receive lots of focused individual attention throughout the course. Additional individual editorial consultations can also be arranged ” just let us know.

Facilitators:

Selena Hanet-Hutchins (9 years in publishing, author and
editor) edits fiction and non-fiction, screenplays, theatre scripts, and
poetry. She spent two and half years as Allen & Unwins Submissions Editor
for unsolicited manuscripts (the ˜slush pile) and six years ˜at large for
Selwa Anthony Author Management agency.
